1st UGM of term – Thurs 8th Oct, 1pm, Old Theatre

October 7th, 2009

Debate. Banter. A chance to change LSE.

The Union General Meeting (UGM) lets students directly shape the direction of the Students’ Union, and brings LSE students together every Thursday at 1pm in the Old Theatre during term time!

ALL students can attend, propose, speak on and vote for (or against!) policy that shapes the Union’s campaigns and changes LSE.

The FIRST UGM of term is this THURSDAY 8th OCTOBER, 1pm in the Old Theatre. The motions will be:

  • Let Othman study – free the LSE student trapped in Palestine
  • Resits – campaign for summer/autumn resits
  • Rent guarantor scheme – stop students paying six months rent in advance
  • Futureproof – bringing together environmental campaigns

We will also be electing this term’s Chair, Vice-Chair and Keeper of the UGM!

You can view the motions in full at our Facebook group at http://tinyurl.com/firstugm.

International Film Festival – Correction

October 7th, 2009

Apologies to all those of you looking forward to a showing of Hotel Rwanda this evening. Due to a pre-organised film showing in the Sheikh Zayed Theatre run by the School we had agreed to join their film showing instead. This message was not effectively communicated to you all so please accept our apologies. We will however look into reorganising this screening for a later date.
Please do join us for the last two screening this week however, they will be, as usual, in the New Theatre, from 6.30pm

LSE SU Dialogue Commission – apply for mediator training

October 7th, 2009

The LSESU Dialogue Commission seeks to foster greater understanding and co-operation between students and political, religious and national Students’ Union societies. Dialogues are conducted under a strict confidentiality agreement with mediators from the student body. Subjects ongoing from the past year include Palestine-Israel and Tibet-China. The Commission is eager to hear from students and societies interested in dialogue on other subjects.

If you would like to become a trained and accredited mediator with the Commission, see the application form at http://tinyurl.com/lsesudc. These appointments are only open to second and third year undergraduates, graduate and PhD students. The positions require a substantial time commitment and you will be expected to maintain an unbiased position in dialogues.

If selected, you will be trained and receive a certificate from a professional mediation program. If you require more information about becoming a mediator, contact su.dialogue@lse.ac.uk.
