“Students and young people don’t campaign to make a difference anymore”, an LSE student’s parent said to me recently. In one sense, they were right – not many young people get engaged by the old style of campaigning our parents are used to, which expects change to come at the end of a long, serious meeting in a pub, or a few marchers holding poorly painted placards outside Downing Street.
But the reality is that lots of young people are making new and innovative campaigns that are inspiring and successful – through creative techniques, the use of old and new media, and organising networks of hundreds or even thousands of people through simple methods that have been shown to work in all sorts of places, from Obama’s Presidential campaign to communities getting together for change all over the world.
Want to learn more about how to make a difference and create successful campaigns for change? Then Change-makers is for you!
Change-makers, from 12-5pm on Saturday 10th October in Clement House (at LSE), will be an afternoon of meeting other students interested in campaigning at LSE and beyond through the Students’ Union, with workshops, skills sessions and planning for the year ahead! We’ll be having a social afterwords and it’s only one afternoon, so why not come along?
It’s open to all LSE students for free. Whether you’ve campaigned before or not, come along and learn more about making a difference at LSE and beyond through the Students’ Union.
Check out the Facebook group at http://tinyurl.com/changelse and please email su.gensec@lse.ac.uk to let us know you’re coming!
