Talk Overview – The Rise of Social Games:  New Trends and Future Directions for Interactive Entertainment

The computer and video game industry has evolved into a major commercial and creative entity.  Driven by new technology it is a dynamic space that constantly reinvents itself through innovation in hardware and user experience.

Recent years have seen the rise of a new game genre known as Social Gaming which has helped establish games as popular entertainment for mainstream audiences.  Games are now for everyone and the landscape continues to evolve.

The growth of social media and the transition to digital distribution is influencing all media platforms and industries.  New interactive entertainment products and business models are emerging.

In this talk, Paulina Bozek, BAFTA-award winning Executive Producer and an LSE alumna, will talk about her experience of building the SingStar game franchise and highlight the current trends and new directions in interactive entertainment.

Biography
Paulina Bozek is the Development Director of the Atari London Studio.  Prior to joining Atari, she spent 6 years as the Executive Producer of the popular game franchise SingStar for PlayStation. In 2004 Paulina won the BAFTA award for Best New Interactive Talent.  The following year, SingStar won a BAFTA for Originality. In 2008 Management Today listed Paulina in its annual list of top ’35 women under 35’ in British Business. She has a BA in Cultural Studies from McGill University and an MSc in Media & Communications from the London School of Economics.  Paulina was recently elected to the LSE Court of Governors.
